Tsunami Threat in Chile Has Passed After Strong Earthquake
Source: USGS
The threat of tsunami waves for coastal regions of Chile quickly passed, after a large earthquake in the body of water that connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
A category 7.5 quake struck the Drake Passage with a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), according to an emailed statement from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii. While that initially created the risk of hazardous tsunami waves for parts of the country, the threat has now passed, it later said.
