Modi Hails Closer Ties With China as Trump’s Higher Tariffs Loom

Souring US Ties Push India Closer to China

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed improving ties with China as the two sides seek to reset relations amid mounting tariff pressure from US President Donald Trump.

“India-China relations have made steady progress guided by respect for each other’s interests,” Modi said in a X post on Tuesday, after meeting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New Delhi, who is visiting India for the first time in three years. “Stable, predictable, constructive ties between India and China will contribute significantly to regional as well as global peace and prosperity.”
