Newmont Pauses Canada Gold Mine After Three Workers Trapped

Newmont Corp. paused operations at its Red Chris gold mine in western Canada following an accident that trapped three miners underground.

The workers were trapped after two incidents in which material unexpectedly fell and blocked access at a “non-producing project” within Red Chris mine on Tuesday morning, the company said Wednesday in an emailed statement. Newmont said they made it safely to a refuge station equipped with food, water and ventilation following the first incident.
