AT&T Deals Deliver Surge in Second-Quarter Phone Customers

AT&T Inc. reported second-quarter results that mostly exceeded Wall Street estimates, including faster-than-expected growth in wireless phone subscribers after offering perks and incentives to attract customers from rivals.

The Dallas-based carrier added 401,000 mobile-phone customers in the second quarter, according to a statementBloomberg Terminal Wednesday. That beat analysts’ estimates for a gain of 301,000 and contrasts with Verizon, which reported loss of subscribers.
