Turkish authorities removed five local opposition mayors from office and launched an investigation into their party leader in a widening judicial crackdown.

The officials from the main opposition Republican People’s Party, or CHP, included the mayors of three districts in Istanbul as well as two in the southern province of Adana, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
