Direct, high-speed train services between London and new destinations such as Cologne, Lyon, Frankfurt and Geneva got a step closer today, as the final major barrier to routing new services through the Channel Tunnel was officially removed.
A report released today by the UK’s Office For Rail and Road found that the East London depot of Eurostar (currently the only train company running cross-Channel services) has potential space to store more trains. With that last issue now resolved, British train operator Virgin said there were “no more major hurdles to overcome” for new services using the Channel Tunnel, and that they would be proposing some imminently.
