Former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was cleared by police investigating the Scottish National Party’s finances as her estranged husband appeared in court charged with embezzlement.

Sturgeon, 54, led her party and the devolved government in Edinburgh for nine years before stepping down in March 2023. She was arrested by police in June that year as part of the probe and released without charge. Her husband, Peter Murrell, a former chief executive of the SNP, was charged in April last year. The two recently said they were ending their marriage.
