The collision, which took place near the Greek village of Tempi, was Europe’s second deadliest this century, killing 57 people and injuring 81 after two trains were misdirected onto the same track on the main line between Athens and Thessaloniki. It has since proved intensely controversial in Greece, with the aftermath and slow investigation sparking large public demonstrations.
