What better time to devour a family drama at the cinema than just before the holidays, when one may well be forced to go home and reckon with one’s own?
This November, theaters will be full of them. There will be the usual treacle, notably the millennia-spanning Robert Zemeckis tearjerker Here, which features a de-aged Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. But the best revolve around fraught relationships among people who just so happen to share the same blood. You can take a Holocaust tour of Poland alongside kvetching cousins; see siblings spar in an adaptation of a celebrated play; and watch Selena Gomez sing and dance in a musical about a gender-transitioning Mexican cartel leader.
