Ballot counting of Tuesday’s elections started in Liberia as voting continued in a few centers beyond schedule due to heavy rains.
Voting, which closed at 6:00 p.m., got off to a rough start due to a “huge turnout of enthusiastic Liberians to cast their ballots,” Davidetta Browne Lansanah, chairperson of the National Elections Commission, told reporters in Monrovia, the capital. People are still voting at 11 centers in the country’s southeastern region, where the Commission extended hours, she said.
