A former Venezuelan defense minister jailed by the late President Hugo Chavez was granted parole Tuesday night amid ongoing human rights negotiations between the embattled socialist government and the U.S.
Retired general Raul Baduel was released from a military jail outside Caracas after serving six of his eight-year term on charges of corruption, his daughter Andreina Baduel wrote in Twitter postings, which included pictures and videos with her father. Baduel’s release came less than 24 hours after the former opposition mayor of the western city of San Cristobal, Daniel Ceballos, moved from the same jail to house arrest on medical grounds.
